VALLEJO, Calif. – An exciting period for women's basketball will continue this week when it ends the 2025-26 regular season with a game in Angwin against its conference rival and Saturday's Senior Day game vs. Simpson, a potential playoff preview since the Keelhaulers and the Red Hawks enter the week in first and second place in the Cal Pac Conference standings.

Since the program will honor its six seniors in a pregame Senior Day ceremony — Jessica Huffhines, Suraya Lloyd, Emily Newton, Cherika Rafan, Aysia Santos and — Tamana Sharifi make sure you arrive to PEAC Main Gym at least 30 minutes prior to tipoff.

Last week, Aysia Santos and Tamana Sharifi wrote their names in the program's records book: By scoring 41 points in last Tuesday's home game, Santos is now the fourth-highest scorer all-time; Sharifi's 28 rebounds are a new all-time single-game high.

This week, Cal Maritime will face an opportunity to sweep all four games played against Pacific Union this season. After beating the Pioneers in Angwin for its season opener in October, the Keelhaulers topped them again in a designated non-conference neutral-site game hosted by Simpson three weeks later. The team's Cal Pac opener in Vallejo ended in favor of the blue and gold — something the program hopes to replicate on Thursday.

If the Keelhaulers manage to sweep PUC, all eyes are on Saturday's Cal Maritime-Simpson matchup because that will determine matchups for the following week's conference tournament, hosted by the Keelhaulers.

Simpson, Cal Maritime and Northern New Mexico will all earn an opening-round bye, that is certain. However, the order of the top three is yet to be determined. If Cal Maritime loses at Pacific Union, Simpson locks up the top seed. If the Keelhaulers leave Angwin with a win, two options remain

  • A Cal Maritime win over Simpson will tie the Red hawks with the Keelhaulers in the loss column, ending the final seeding to the tournament committee for determination
  • A Simpson win over Cal Maritime guarantees it the No. 1 seed.

Given the geography of league institutions, the Cal Pac had to deal with an imbalanced men's and women's basketball schedule. The California-based teams all played each other twice; Northern New Mexico played Pacific Union, Simpson and Stanton once (going 2-1) but didn't play Cal Maritime.

With only three games played, NNM's final seed could be influenced by its NAIA RPI.

No matter what happens with Cal Maritime this week, Stanton and the Pioneers will face one another in next Friday's lone women's Championship opening-round game with the No. 4 and 5 seed finalized once the regular season concludes Saturday evening.

The Conference office and the seeding reviewers have a set of guidelines based on NAIA selection criteria. The primary factors are all reviewed concurrently. While Conference record is likely a dominant factor with an imbalanced schedule, factoring in the following criteria can be considered equally:

  • Conference Record
  • Tiebreakers
    • head to head
    • results versus other teams in standings order
    • road results
    • defensive head-to-head scores
  • Overall record
  • NAIA RPI, as of February 16

No matter what happens when the regular season concludes, Cal Maritime's program-record (and current) seven-game win streak makes it the hottest team in the league and a group peaking at the right time of the year.
