VALLEJO, Calif. – Pacific Union may have started Saturday night's Cal Pac Conference opener with a three-point lead after the first quarter, but thanks to the Keelhaulers' defense and an offense that caught fire in the third and fourth quarter, Cal Maritime ended with a 56-50 victory versus rival Pacific Union.
Aysia Santos led all Keelhaulers with 14 points, Jessica Huffhines and Suraya Lloyd each finished with nine with the latter pulling a team-high eight rebounds.
Cienna Keowns also recorded seven rebounds for a Keelhauler team that scored 22 of its points in the paint.
Cal Maritime's defense shined by forcing 21 turnovers, which led to 18 points, and held the Pioneers to .298 shooting overall.
Women's basketball will return to action Wednesday night at Simpson, tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
