VALLEJO, Calif. — The battle for the best possible seeding at the Cal Pac Championships, hosted by Cal Maritime in late February, begins this weekend when women's basketball hosts Pacific Union Saturday night, at 6:30 p.m. — the late start is due to PUC's Sabbath; it cannot participate in extracurricular activities between sunset on Friday and sunset on Saturday — inside PEAC Main Gym.

These teams met twice already this season in Cal Maritime's season opener and a neutral-site matchup at Simpson a few weeks later — games won by the Keelhaulers.

Including those results, Cal Maritime enters the weekend possessing a nine-game win streak against the Pioneers and the last three played inside PEAC Main Gym.

Since last Saturday's 2026 opener versus UC Santa Cruz was a designated exhibition matchup, this is the first official contest of the season for the Keelhaulers.

By comparison, Saturday's game in Vallejo is Pacific Union's third of 2026: After dropping a designated non-conference game at Simpson on New Year's Day, it lost last Saturday's league opener at Stanton by four points in a low-scoring affair that saw the teams score 84 points combined.

The Pioneers will face Cal Maritime in the second of five straight games played on the road; what started last weekend in Fullerton continues this weekend in Vallejo, next weekend in Redding at Simpson and concludes at the end of the month in Arizona with games against Northern New Mexico and Nelson University.

The Pioneers' payoff will take place throughout the entire month of February when they play every game at home, including the team's February 19 regular-season finale against Cal Maritime.
