Historic season ends in the Cal Pac Championships semifinals

VALLEJO, Calif. – Down to just five players in Sunday's semifinal game at the Cal Pac Women's Basketball Championship, Cal Maritime needed a three to pull even against a team that had twice as many players on its roster. Unable to sink the game-tying three to force overtime, the Keelhaulers' program-record nine-game win streak was snapped in a game that Northern New Mexico won, 80-77.

Leading 43-35 at halftime, the Eagles took the lead by outscoring Cal Maritime in the third quarter. However, the Keelhaulers responded by outscoring their opponent in the fourth quarter, 23-17, to keep action within one possession throughout the final minutes of the evening.

Jessica Huffhines led all players with a career-high 26 points, recording six of her eight baskets from three. She shot 8 of 15 overall and 6 of 11 from distance in addition to collecting a career-high seven boards.

In her final game as a Keelhauler, Emily Newton scored 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting and grabbed six rebounds, Aysia Santos added another 16 points by hitting two of her six buckets from three, in addition to all three attempts at the line.

Including their red-hot shooting from the floor in the first and second quarters, the Keelhaulers hit 50 and 40 percent of their attempts, respectively, the team shot 44 percent for the night.

Cal Maritime's 13 wins this season were the most since the 2011-12 campaign and ranks second in program history, matching the total number of victories earned in 2014-15.
