Keelhaulers dominate second half behind career-high efforts from Newton, Santos and Sharifi

VALLEJO, Calif. - Three days after scoring a new career high, Emily Newton set another new mark in Monday's home game vs. Northwest Indian College by recording a game-high 26 points, hit five of her nine baskets from three, and grabbed a career-best nine boards in a game the Keelhaulers won by a 75-62 result.

Cal Maritime also enjoyed an outstanding performance from Aysia Santos who ended with 25 points, the highest total of her career, by hitting half of her 24 attempts from the floor.

Tamana Sharifi also shined by notching her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.

Even though Cal Maritime and the Lady Eagles entered the locker room at halftime tied at 35, the Keelhaulers started the second half on fire and outscored their opponent, 25-10, in the third quarter thanks to the team's red-hot shooting from the floor.

In that 10-minute period, Cal Maritime shot 60 percent (12-for-20) and held NWIC to only four field goals out of its 15 attempts (26.7 pct.).

The Keelhaulers scored 31 of their points of 29 Lady Eagles turnovers; led by Alanis Sulivan with a career-high five, 13 of those miscues were steals that Cal Maritime's defense created.

Women's basketball will now have the week to prepare for its next game, a return to Cal Pac action, Saturday evening at Stanton. Tipoff from Cypress College in Cypress, California, is set for 5:45 p.m.
