VALLEJO, Calif. – For the first time since the 2019-20 season, Cal Maritime will head to the coast to face the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. Tipoff from KP Arena is set for 6 p.m. on Valentine's Day.
With the final two regular season games of the season taking place next week, this weekend's contest is a phenomenal opportunity for the Keelhaulers to fine tune their schemes, plays, rotations and strategies since the Cal Pac Basketball Championships are taking place inside PEAC Main Gym at the end of the month.
Victorious in its last two games, Cal Maritime would love nothing more than to build a win streak of three or more games for the first time this year since opening the season with wins in the first four played.
Of the last 10 games played on the Slugs' home court, Cal Maritime won four of those matchups. Including wins in three of the last five meetings, the Keelhaulers are 6-4 in the 10 previous matchups, 3-1 in the last four road games and won both of the games UCSC hosted inside KP Arena.
Entering this week's slate, men's basketball is tied for third, two games behind Simpson for the top spot in the standings. Even though Northern New Mexico is currently second, it only played four Cal Pac games and will not face another league opponent until the conference tournament.
