VALLEJO, Calif. – With three games remaining for Cal Maritime, its attention is split — and rightfully so — entering the final weeks of the season. Starting with Saturday's rematch versus Westcliff, the Warriors won last weekend's game in Southern California, men's basketball has three games remaining — three opportunities to climb the conference standings for the best possible seeding at the Cal Pac Men's Basketball Championship, hosted by the Keelhaulers at the end of the month.
Of the six Cal Pac teams, Cal Maritime will enjoy an advantage like no other since all of its remaining games are local: Including Saturday's series finale, two of the final league matchups will take place inside PEAC Main Gym with Simpson visiting on February 21 on the last day of the season.
Between those games is a trip to Pacific Union, the only conference action taking place on the road, with a trip to UC Santa Cruz thrown in on Valentine's Day as the final non-conference game of the year.
With a win, Cal Maritime will split the season series against the Warriors, snap a six-game head-to-head losing streak and reach .500 in league play, climbing the standings in the process since it enters the week in fourth place. When they arrive to PEAC Main Gym, the Warriors will sit ahead of the Keelhaulers by one game in third place; with its desired result, Cal Maritime will sit even with Westcliff in the conference standings ahead of next week's game at Pacific Union.
Men's basketball's last victory versus the Warriors took place at home during the 2022-23 season.
