VALLEJO, Calif. — A home-heavy portion of Cal Maritime's schedule continues this week when the Stanton Elks visit PEAC Main Gym on Saturday, January 24, for the inaugural Cal Pac Conference meeting against Cal Maritime.
Even though Stanton participated in a full season during the 2024-25 campaign, it did so as an independent program. In the first-ever matchup between the two, which also took place in Vallejo on December 4, 2024, DeAndre Minor's layup at the buzzer lifted the Keelhaulers to a 64-62 victory.
Before that contest against the elks takes place, men's hoops will head to Redding for its first conference road game at Simpson. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
The Red Hawks lead the all-time series, 12-7; four of Cal Maritime's wins took place at the James M. Grant Center, with the last league tilt in Redding ending in the Keelhaulers' favor. However, these teams met earlier this season in a designated non-conference road game that the Red Hawks won on December 4.
Cal Maritime will enter Wednesday's game with momentum after defeating Pacific Union in last Saturday's league opener, followed by an exhibition win against Cal Miramar the following afternoon. However, including the two days off between Sunday's home contest and Wednesday's Cal Pac road opener, the Keelhaulers are playing their third game within a five-day timespan.
The Red Hawks will enter their Cal Pac home opener after splitting their last four games played. After going 1-1 on their inaugural Cal Pac road trip of the year — they lost to Stanton but defeated Westcliff two day later before returning home to Northern California – non-conference games against Lincoln (CA) and UC Santa Cruz ended with a win and a loss, respectively.
Stanton will head to Vallejo for its inaugural conference matchup in program history against Cal Maritime on a three-game slide in games all played on the road. Following a win in their first-ever Cal Pac game, played at home against Simpson, the Elks lost to Pacific Union, Nelson University and Northern New Mexico, facing league opponents in the first and third games on that road swing.
Two days after hosting Stanton, Cal Maritime will close a home-heavy start to the 2026 calendar year — of its first seven games, five took place on its home court — by facing Lincoln (CA) for the third, and final time this season.
After defeating the Oaklanders, 108-102 in their October 30 home opener, the Keelhaulers lost their January 3 road game, 102-96, ending Cal Maritime's perfect head-to-head record since it won all four previously played games.
