Alanis Sulivan captures first career Player of the Week award
VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime's women's basketball team will enter this weekend's Cal Pac Conference Women's Basketball Championship on a program-record nine-game win streak, and sophomore guard Alanis Sulivan is a key reason why as league officials bestowed their final Defensive Player of the Week award to the Stockton, California native.
Throughout the final week of the regular season when the Keelhaulers faces rival Pacific Union on the road before hosting first-place Simpson at home two days later on Senior Day, Sulivan averaged 4.5 steals per game, including a game-high four against the Pioneers last Thursday and a game-high five two days later against the Red Hawks.
Sulivan enters the postseason tied for third all-time with a single season total of 58 steals — a league-high total for the season and leads all Cal Pac players with 25 steals in league games only.
Sulivan and her teammates will open postseason play on their home court, starting with Sunday's 8 p.m. marquee matchup vs. Northern New Mexico in the final game of the Championship's semifinal round.
Cal Maritime earned an opening-round bye thanks to that season-ending win streak.
