VALLEJO, Calif. – With a light slate of games throughout the month of December — only three games will take place before the start of 2026 — Cal Maritime will head to Seaside for Tuesday night's 5:30 p.m. exhibition game against the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters.
Since Cal Maritime's final week is taking place from December 11-15, this is the only game taking place before exams since intercollegiate athletics teams are not allowed to schedule events during that time period so student-athletes can solely focus on end-of-term papers and tests.
For the Otters, this meeting is a break from California Collegiate Athletic Association action; Tuesday's game vs. a Division-II program gives the Keelhaulers an opportunity to keep everyone in game shape during a quiet portion of college basketball's schedule, tinker with various lineups, matchups and schemes since this game will not affect their overall record.
This is the first head-to-head matchup in program history.
Cal State Monterey Bay is 2-2 on the season after dropping Wednesday's conference opener to Cal State San Marcos. These two will meet again this weekend before the Otters host the Keelhaulers three days later.
Off since November 22 after falling to Northwest at home before its Thanksgiving break started, Cal Maritime will play two games in as many days after facing the Otters.
On December 17, it will face fellow Cal Pac Conference foe Stanton in a designated non-conference game to open play at the Hope International Classic, hosted by Hope International in Fullerton, California. Twenty-two hours after tipping-off against Elks, the Keelhaulers will face the tournament host in its final game of the calendar year before returning home to Vallejo.
