Tamana Sharifi named Cal Pac's Defensive Player of the Week
VALLEJO, Calif. – By averaging a double-double this past week during women's basketball's pair of games against Pacific Union and Simpson, played in Redding, California Pacific Conference officials named senior forward Tamana Sharifi its Defensive Player of the Week.
This is the first Defensive Player of the Week Award earned by Sharifi and a member of the women's basketball program since it started honoring two people, an offensive and defensive player, each week. Prior to Tuesday's announcement, Jaz Novelli and Aysia Santos earned Offensive honors last season and on November 4 of this year, respectively.
The native of Antioch, California, is one of only two Keelhaulers in the last six seasons to average a double-double during a week of action (Alicia Porter is the other). Her 17 points scored last Friday versus Pacific Union is a new career high; she followed that performance by collecting 13 rebounds the next day vs. Simpson, another career-best total.
For the weekend, Sharifi was responsible for nearly one-third (32 percent) of Cal Maritime's total rebounds.
Cal Maritime will return home for its final home game of 2025 when it hosts Northwest University in Saturday's 6 p.m. non-conference matchup inside PEAC Main Gym.
