Nick Mueller dominates PCCSC Men’s Singlehanded Championship, earns repeat appearance at the national championship
VALLEJO, Calif. – Junior Nick Mueller provided the best possible start to the 2025-26 season for Cal Maritime by winning the PCCSC Men's Singlehanded Championship, hosted by Stanford at the Arrillaga Family Rowing and Sailing Center in Redwood City, California.
With this regatta championship, Mueller earned a highly-coveted berth to the National Open Singlehanded Championship, hosted by Old Dominion November 8-9 in Norfolk, Virginia, for the second straight season.
After opening the weekend with a third-place result in the first of the regatta's 10 races, the Whittier, California native finished first in six of the following eight races, crossing the line second in the other two.
Mueller's insurmountable lead entering the last race provided an opportunity for him to end his day early, since everyone else was battling for second place. Even though the race championship was already in hand, he chose to compete and just sailed the course one final time, allowing everyone else to compete for the highest final overall positions on the leaderboard.
Mueller is the only Cal Maritime student-athlete in program history to compete at the National Singlehanded Championship multiple times throughout one's college career.
