Historic night leads to Stone’s third Player of the Week award

VALLEJO, Calif. – Thanks to a historic performance turned in by sophomore guard Nick Stone when the Keelhaulers hosted Whittier College on December 18, the Sacramento native earned Offensive Player of the Week accolades when announced by league officials on Monday.

This is the third time Stone was named Player of the Week this season, a new men's basketball program record.

Stone scored 40 points vs. Whittier, the most by a Keelhauler in a single game since 2008, matching an all-time single-game record in the process. By shooting 14-for-18 overall against the Poets and 8 of 9 from three, he now ranks No. 2 all-time for field goals made and three-point percentage (.888) in a single game.

The home crowd also witnessed him tying another single-game program record for the most three-pointers made in a game.

For the week, he averaged 27 points 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, shot 60 percent overall and from three in addition to hitting all nine free throw attempts.

Off for the holidays, Cal Maritime will resume competition at Lincoln (CA) on January 3.
