Nick Stone ties two all-time single-game records with his 40-point performance vs. Whittier

VALLEJO, Calif. – Nick Stone etched his name in Cal Maritime's records book by scoring 40 points in Thursday's non-conference game at PEAC Main Gym thanks to a highly-efficient 14-for-18 shooting performance overall, canning 8 of 9 shots from three and all four free throw attempts to lead his team's comeback effort against Whittier College.

By connecting on 10 of 22 shots from three in the first half — half of its baskets were scored from behind the arc — Whittier led 54-37 at halftime.

Cal Maritime methodically climbed back in the game as the second half progressed and pulled within six in the final minutes before the visiting Poets sank free throws to hold off the Keelhaulers and record a 96-90 victory.

Cody Gatton set the program's single-game record on February 7, 2008, against Pacific Union, and stood alone until the Stone matched his total in his team's final game of 2025.

The Sacramento native now ranks second all-time for the most field goals made in a game with 14, and tied Justin Eisen for the most threes made in a single game.

Eisen set the program record on November 20, 2018 at Jessup.

Fans in attendance enjoyed a second-half shooting clinic from the Keelhaulers as they hit 19 of 31 shots overall (61 pct.), 9 of 12 from distance (75 pct.) and all six at the line after halftime.

Twenty-nine of Stone's points were earned throughout the second half.

Yanik Anderson enjoyed his best performance of the season by scoring a career-high 16 points on a near perfect shooting effort as he hit all five shots from the floor, all three from three and 3 of 4 at the stripe.

As was the case with Stone and Anderson, Amanjeet Chatha posted a career-high points total by finishing with 11 — he hit three of his four shots from distance — and Emerson Santos matched his career high by scoring 10 points.

Micah Johnston led his team with a career-high seven rebounds.

Cal Maritime will enjoy its holiday hiatus before returning to action January 3 at Lincoln (CA).
