Keelhaulers win shootout in home opener vs. Lincoln (CA), 108-102

VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime scored 108 points in Thursday's home opener, the seventh-highest single-game total in program history to start the season 2-0 by defeating Lincoln (CA), 108-102.

Five Keelhaulers scored double figures, led by Jordan Morency and his 20 on an efficient 9 of 12 shooting. Chiron Pham finished with a career-high 18 points on an equally efficient 8-for-13 from the floor, Lawrence Long added 15, Nick Stone pitched in 13 points and Ivan Soto's 12 led a group of 10 different Cal Maritime scorers.

The victory is the third in a row in as many games against the Oaklanders.

Even though Lincoln scored the first seven of the game's 12 points, a Christian Togiai layup drew the Keelhaulers even and the Oaklanders never led the rest of the night.

A 9-2 Cal Maritime run that followed shortly thereafter provided all the cushion it needed for the rest of the night as Lincoln (CA) never threatened to erase the Keelhaulers' cushion for the rest of the game.

If the Oaklanders did not hit four free throws within the last 10 second of the game, Cal Maritime would have won by double digits — a margin it maintained for most of the game, outside an Oaklander possession or two in the second half.

Cal Maritime dissected Lincoln (CA)'s defense all night long to shoot 58 percent overall from the floor, scoring 78 of its points in the paint with 62 earned by its bench.

Even though men's basketball will not play another home game until December 17, it will not wait nearly as long for its next game, taking place on November 9 at La Sierra.
