VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime will enter the back-half of its current eight-game road swing this week when it heads to Forest Grove, Oregon, this weekend to compete in the Ken Schumann Classic, hosted by Pacific (OR). After facing the host Boxers Friday night and George Fox Saturday afternoon — both are NCAA Division III programs — a drive back to Vallejo and a Monday night matchup at Dominican await the Keelhaulers before everyone enters the Thanksgiving break.
After the holiday, CSUM will end is season-long block of road action when it heads to Jessup on December 2 and West Coast Baptist on December 6.
In two of the first three road games, Cal Maritime faced nationally ranked opponents; it is fair to say the Keelhaulers played the toughest schedule so far of any team in the California Pacific Conference. As this season-long swing continues, this year's CSUM squad will gain valuable experience and strengthen team chemistry.
Pacific (OR) enters its home tournament with a 2-2 record, winning a pair of home games against Douglas College after losing its first two games of the season.
As is the case with Friday's matchup against the Boxers, Saturday's matchup versus the Bruins is the first head-to-head meeting in the Keelhaulers' recorded history.
George Fox will begin its tournament slate against Redlands before facing CSUM. Once action begins, that will end an 11-day hiatus for the Bruins since their last game was a 95-87 loss at UC Santa Cruz.
Prior to that game against the Banana Slugs, George Fox lost its season opener to Chapman and rebounded the next day to defeat Caltech.
Monday's exhibition at Dominican, a D-II team, is the third all-time meeting between the two and the first since January 29, 2009.
