VALLEJO, Calif. –
Cal Maritime will return to San Pedro, California, seeking its ninth Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup title when competition commences on Friday, March 7, at the Port of Los Angeles — Pt. Fermin.

This world-class annual event is tri-hosted by the Port of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Yacht Club and CSUM.

Joining the Keelhaulers in Southern California for this three-day 10-race regatta are Maine Maritime (last year's champion), College of Charleston (the winner of last November's Kennedy Cup), Arizona State, Cal Poly, Hawai'i, Navy, University of Victoria, U.S. Coast Guard and USC.

These 10 teams will test the challenging waters of the Pacific at Pt. Fermin, located next to the Los Angeles Yacht Club, aboard a fleet of identical Catalina 37s – the same one-design keelboats utilized in the prestigious Congressional Cup regatta.

Point Fermin Park on Paseo Del Mar and Cabrillo Beach provide excellent viewing locations for spectators.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was one of the original 10 competitors when the 2025 field was announced earlier this academic year but withdrew due to circumstances out of its control. Replacing it as the event's first alternate was Hawai'i.

Another school forced to withdraw was UC Santa Barbara, which opened a coveted spot for University of Victoria — one of two schools making their inaugural appearance in one of offshore sailing's premier events.

Arizona State is the other program making its Harbor Cup debut this year.

Since its inaugural race in 2008, 165 teams and over 1,400 student-athletes competed in the 16-race history of the Harbor Cup; competition did not take place in 2021 due to COVID-19.

With eight championships to its credit, no school hoisted the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup Perpetual Trophy more than Cal Maritime, one of two universities (Navy is the other) that competed in every regatta in the competition's history.

Participating teams are selected from a large pool of applicants each year; invitees are fully hosted by Los Angeles Yacht Club members with housing and meals provided for all student-athletes and coaches.

This year's regatta also includes a Saturday night dinner for participating teams, LAYC members and VIPs featuring international sailor, author, screenwriter and commentator Kimball Livingston as its keynote speaker.
