Cal Maritime finishes second, fourth at UCSD Open

SAN DIEGO – Cal Maritime continued their 2024-25 campaign as they took part in the UCSD Open in San Diego. The Keelhaulers competed with two teams and finished second and fourth.
The Keelhaulers 2 team was led by sophomore Nick Mueller and Gavin Steuerwald in Division B. Owen Cuyler and Jeff Ring were in Division A. Cuyler and Ring had their best finish of the day in race #5 when they finished fourth. Mueller and Steuerwald won three division races and won their division over the 21 other teams that were competing.
The Keelhaulers 1 team junior Logan Chapman and sophomore Sam Jennings in Division A and in Division B were Julian Levash and Nicolai Perez. Chapman and Jennings had five top five finishes in their division and Levash and Perez had two top five finishes.
The Keelhaulers 2 finished second in the team competition with 71 points overall and Keelhaulers 1 finished fourth with 97 points. USC's Trojan 2 won the team competition with 25 points.
The next event for the Keelhaulers will be next Saturday and Sunday as they take part in the Stoney Burke Intersectional. The event will take place in Richmond at the Richmond Yacht Club.
