Cal Maritime caps 2021-22 season with a Rainier Cup championship
CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. — A special season for Cal Maritime sailing, one that included numerous regatta titles, a list that includes the Kennedy Cup and Harbor Cup, ended in the best possible way with the Keelhaulers dominating action from start to finish at the 2022 Rainier Cup, hosted by Western Washington at the Port of Cascade Locks.
In this two-division dinghy competition, the Keelhaulers opened the weekend in first place by earning a bullet in the Cup's inaugural race and earned another nine as action continued to strengthen its place atop the results board with each passing round.
By winning five of six races in the A Division, and matching those results in the B Division, the Keelhaulers conducted a sailing clinic throughout its stay in Cascade Locks, Oregon, to win the Rainier Cup by 10 points over UC San Diego (26 points).
The Keelhaulers were represented by Jacob Fisker-Andersen and Cyrus Khaleeli in the A Division; Clay Myers and Etienne Quille were the pair that dominated the B Division.
In the other two combined races Cal Maritime did not win, it finished third on each occasion.
UC Santa Cruz (38) finished in third place with event host Western Washington (60) and Washington (69) rounding out the top five. Comprising the bottom half of the Rainier Cup's standings were Oregon (82), UCLA (87), Oregon State (90), Western Washington's women's crew (94) and Cal (100).
