Six meets comprise cross country’s 2024 schedule
Cal Maritime Men's Cross Country – 2024 Schedule
VALLEJO, Calif. – Starting with the Stump Invitational, taking place in Davis, California on September 13, Cal Maritime's men's and women's cross country teams will compete in six events this season, as announced by second-year head coach Francisco Gomez on Thursday.
The Stump Invite is named in memory of Sarah Sumpter, who earned 2012 All-America accolades and Big West Conference Athlete of the Year status twice despite a diagnosis of a brain tumor on the eve of the 2009 cross country season. Known to her friends and teammates as "Stump," Sumpter passed away in September of 2015.
Following a two-week hiatus, the Keelhaulers will return to competition in Rocklin, California, at the Jessup Invitational (Sept. 28) before experiencing another brief break.
Starting with the San Francisco State Invite (Oct. 11), CSUM's harriers will participate in three meets within a 10-day timespan — a block of action that continues at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational (Oct. 19) and the Pacific Union Invitational the following day.
This year's schedule was strategically set by Coach Gomez to help everyone peak at the right time of the season since the Cal Pac's year-end postseason meet is scheduled for October 28, eight days after the Keelhaulers return to campus from their final postseason tune-up at PUC.
As was the case since competition resumed post-COVID, the league's Men's and Women's Cross Country Championship will take place in Fresno, California, at Woodward Park.
